Evolution of Radio Technology The discovery of radio is attributed to James Clerk Maxwell, a Scottish physicist who developed electromagnetic waves in 1860s and Heinrich Hertz, a German physicist who used these waves to develop an instrument called spark transmitter in 1888. The device consisted of an oscillator that emitted radio waves, which were detected using ametal loop that had an opening (gap) at one end. When the loop was placed within the transmitter’s electromagnetic field, sparks were produced across the gap. These radio waves were also known as 'HertzianWaves'... Podcasting: Ushering a New Revolution While the traditional radio companies were struggling to make a comeback with new strategies, the progress to the next frontier in the radio technology was realized in August 2004 when Adam Curry, an MTV-VJ-turned entrepreneur, along with Dave Winer, developed a software called iPodder software.
